Carbon Pawprint

Did you know that on average an adult 5kg cat’s carbon footprint is 1000 kg CO2 per year. Five tonnes of CO2 is roughly the same as the emissions produced by one car every year.

It takes about 50 trees to absorb that amount of CO2.

What you can do to reduce your cat’s pawprint:

1. Avoid aluminum cans and multilayered plastic packaging because they mostly end up in landfills. Landfills produce high levels of methane gas and CO₂, generated by the rotting rubbish in the ground. Choose instead recyclable and biodegradable packaging, which will have a clear recycling symbol.
2. Use biodegradable cat litter.
3. Most commercial pet foods (both wet and dry) are transported thousands of kilometres to your dog’s bowl. Consider preparing and cooking food yourself, with local ingredients.
